It’s that time of year again when we start to look ahead and imagine what the next 12 months have in store.  In terms of antiques and collectables, 2018 was an interesting year as we observed the continued upwards trend of Gentleman’s wristwatches -  we have seen this growing desire for vintage watches bring in some serious collectors to our auction room and this will develop more I predict. If you do have an old Omega or Rolex that you have been meaning to get valued and sell – now is your time, and in an auction room you’re in the best place to get the best price. Oriental antiques have enjoyed growing appeal too and these trends are set to stay with us for 2019. From centuries-old antiques to more modern items, the interest in Asian Art is growing in popularity, especially for pieces from the Muromachi Period (1392 – 1573). Among the Asian antiques that have increased in demand recently are furniture, porcelain, statues, and textiles. Another area that the team and I have really noticed is the growing demand and interest is Music instruments and memorabilia. This is an area that collectors are getting very excited about – from vintage vinyls to surviving band tickets and other memorabilia, there is a big market for these items. Automobilia is another hot trend – we’ve noticed a real pique in interest for items such as vintage plaques, badges and signs. The same rules apply though – the quality of the items is as important as ever!  There are some areas which still offer buyers a good deal too - for example I would recommend looking at the Fine Art & Antiques area of the market for some good buys this year under the gavel. For more information on how much your collectables could be worth get in touch – you can either pop in to our salerooms, arrange for a home appointment or visit one of our regular Valuation Events
