NEWS: Auction Highlights: Bishop & Miller’s Fine Art & Antiques Sale

Bishop & Miller, the international auction house based in Suffolk, recently held its specialist Fine Art & Antique Sale which was rich in Antiques and raised an impressive £130,000.

Many highlights of this specialist auction included a fine example of a silver vinaigrette (Lot 120) which was created in 1805 to commemorate George III fetched a handsome £5,000 under the hammer. This sought-after piece was engraved
with a portrait of Nelson, inscribed 'England Expects Every Man Will Do His Duty'.

Another lot that caught the eye of bidders on auction day was Lot 469, an unusual 19th century Italian School oil painting which depicted a hanging model hand with ga old leaf surround, which sold for over £2,000 to a bidder in London.

The very special and rare 19th Century embroidered Sampler from the "Cheltenham Female Orphan Asylum,” sold for
£4,200 to a buyer in Stamford. The Sampler was a hidden treasure discovered in someone’s home in a house clearance. The Cheltenham Female Orphan Asylum (known as Cheltenham School of Industry until 1823) was as it was
founded in 1806 by Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, who contributed financially to the institution with other members of the Royal family. 

Another highlight from Bishop & Miller’s Fine Art & Antiques Sale was a fine example of a late 16th Century oil painting (Lot 673). The painting depicted a couple in Elizabethan dress picnicking on oysters, artichokes and other exotic fruits. This painting sold for £1,600.
